Many dogs can be trained be dog guards. In today’s world of increased crime, the need for protection is ever more present. Man’s greatest friend the dog has been used for centuries to protect people, long before alarms and security guards ever existed. The dual facet of a dog to be a companion and a guard make them exceptional pets to have.
The most important thing to remember is that a dog can become overly aggressive especially if used in the capacity of a guard dog. It is important to have them trained well to keep them calm in the home even when they must dually act as a guard dog. Dogs often used for military, police and rescue dogs are also exceptional guard dogs. This in part is from their extensive training to be a friend to their human partner and to also master the dual role of protector, rescuer or detective.
Many people are a bit unaware that good guard dogs are often trained. Certainly being a guard dog is an instinct for many dog breeds, but to in fact be a well rounded guard dog and companion training is certainly recommended. It can be a highly effective way of getting the best of both worlds from this special animal.
